Giorgio Sulligoi is the founder and Director of the grid connected & marine Electric Power Generation and Control laboratory (EPGC lab.) at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Trieste where he is an Assistant Professor of Electric Power Generation and Control and appointed Assistant Professor of Shipboard Electrical Power Systems. In 2013, he has received the Italian national qualification for the level of Associate Professor in Electrical Energy Engineering. Since 2013 he is the Deputy Rector of the University of Trieste for Community Affairs and Business Relations. He is the President of AEIT Section Friuli Venezia Giulia. He received a PhD (Doctor Europaeus) from the University of Padua and a MS (summa cum laude) from the University of Trieste, in Electrical Engineering.

Lecture: Evolution of the electrical systems

In recent years, electrical power systems have faced rapid and drastic changes in both technical assets and economical operations. The production and distribution of electrical energy is moving towards a geographically distributed generation with small and medium sized generators, as opposed to the centralized high-capacity power plants that were built in the past. This change opens new technical issues in the operation of the grid. The lesson will focus on issues and solutions related to the high penetration of distributed generation (DG).
